Quarterly Summary

Welocalize has continued to evolve rapidly.  Q2 2007 marked our 22nd consecutive quarter of growth with our company reporting 33.5% growth over Q2 2006.

We also managed to continue our strategic expansion through the acquisition of two high-quality companies: Localize Technologies in Silicon Valley and the localization division of TechIndex in Tokyo.  As part of the Localize acquisition, I am happy to introduce Gary Prioste, CEO and President of Localize, as a new member to our management team.  Gary brings over 20 years of experience in the delivery and support of complex IT solutions to the localization industry. We are thrilled to have him on board!

The quarter also saw our listing on the Inc. Magazine list of fastest growing companies for the 3rd straight year, which is a wonderful achievement for our entire global team.

Our growth is exciting, and our success is a reflection of our people’s hard work and our clients’ and partners’ steady support.  Thank you all.

Robust Team, Key Customers and
Increased Silicon Valley Presence

The acquisition continues Welocalize’s vision of building a global company comprised of the best talent and customers in the industry.

Since 1990, Localize Technologies has been a leading provider of targeted localization services for key technology companies in the bay area. Localize Technologies provides Welocalize the specialized expertise in meeting the demand of high-volume technology clients. In turn, Localize Technologies customers gain access to a global platform of language, engineering, media and publishing services.

"Welocalize offers the global platform and production capacity that is needed to provide our customers with increased scalability and cost savings,” says Gary Prioste, CEO of Localize Technologies. “We are pleased to be part of a successful and innovative company that is also devoted to rigid quality standards that match customer expectations."

"We are very happy to have Gary and the Localize Technologies team join Welocalize," explains E. Smith Yewell, CEO of Welocalize. "By combining well-established strengths and a robust management team, we increase our expertise to better serve our customers. Ultimately, our goal is to build a great company, and the addition of Localize helps us reach that goal."

A key focus for both Welocalize and Localize Technologies has been the application of technologies that help optimize internal workflow and customer globalization programs. “We value a robust technology platform that allows us to customize tools and processes to meet complex customer demands," says Andre Pellet, Vice President of Welocalize. “As an Idiom Platinum LSP Partner, Localize Technologies offers additional expertise to further Welocalize’s status as a leading technology integrator in the industry."

Division of TechIndex Japan

Acquisition creates leader in Japanese
translation excellence located in Tokyo

The acquisition marks a significant expansion in Japan for Welocalize with the addition of experienced, in-house Japanese translators, quality control and project management professionals.

The acquisition indicates a major milestone for Welocalize in the rapidly evolving Japanese market. “Our clients are increasingly moving their decision making for Japanese localization/translation to Tokyo, and now we will be able to service their in-country needs with a highly-competent, quality-focused team located in the heart of the city,” said E. Smith Yewell, Welocalize CEO.

"Both companies are passionate about delivering high-quality services to our clients. In combining Welocalize and the localization division of TechIndex, we believe we offer something new and fresh with an organization in Japan that is smart, innovative and bursting with ideas," said Sunil Sadhwani, Welocalize General Manager, Japan. “Quality requirements in Japanese are unique, and we have the capability and commitment to deliver to the absolutely highest standards.”

“For more than 10 years, TechIndex has continuously provided localization services and been widely acclaimed as one of the leading high quality providers. I strongly believe that by acquiring TechIndex, Welocalize will inherit its business for further enhancement and development in the Japanese market," said Yuji Nagasawa, TechIndex Executive Vice President.

Welocalize Expands Testing Lab

An Interview with James Bond,
Welocalize Corporate Quality Manager

Elly Liu: Hi James. You’ve been devoted to expanding the capacity of the Portland QA lab this year. Would you please introduce yourself to our readers?

James Bond: My name is James Bond, and I am the Corporate Quality Manager for Welocalize. I am located in the Portland, Oregon Office. The Portland QA Lab is my responsibility, and I am available to assist our clients with their testing needs.

EL: I understand the lab recently expanded its hardware infrastructure?

JB: Yes, The lab has expanded to 32 workstations, with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server and Macintosh installed separately. With the exception of the server based machines, each workstation is set up with a localized and English-base machine side by side. Each workstation has dual 17” LCD monitors and KVM switches for single keyboard and mouse use. Each new workstation is an Intel Core 2 with Dual 250GB HD’s and 2GB memory.

EL: Can you describe the test stations, multi-system rollback and test station checkout?

JB: Each workstation consists of an English machine and a localized machine. Each localized machine runs a multi-boot system. When the machine is booted up, the tester is able to select the localized OS needed for testing. When testing is completed, if needed, each machine is able to return to a clean image state using a software product called “Image Restore.” This structure improves testing efficiency and effectiveness.

EL: With so many localized operating systems available in the lab and the increased hardware capacity, how do you manage it all?

JB: Currently we have 33 localized operation systems for Windows XP and 26 localized operating systems for Windows Vista. We centralize the management of all QA projects while serving our clients all over the world with both in-house and remote testers. Our unique tools and infrastructure enable us to work on multi-lingual projects within one central framework while managing the QA process irrespective of time zone differences. Utilization of our team in China through our Hybrid Delivery Model is also a key ingredient in our success.

EL: I can see that QA capacity has been enlarged. What’s your plan for further growth?

JB: With the new lab and the ability to handle more projects, we are now focusing on increased efficiency to reduce costs, rework and down time. These improvements will support our clients’ growing needs and ensure quality and cost-effectiveness, as well as delivery time.

Upcoming Events:

Localization World Seattle

October 16-18, 2007

As a Silver Sponsor, Welocalize will be exhibiting at next month’s Localization World Conference in Seattle and participating in many sessions and panels.

During the pre-conference day, Andre Pellet, Vice President, will host his 4th M&A: Uncovered workshop. Mr. Pellet has invited a panel of industry professionals to contribute their personal experience on post-merger integration.  As Moderator, Mr. Pellet will draw upon the key issues of integration, including IT, internal communication, financial tracking—all factors that contribute to the success or failure of a merger.  Mr. Pellet is also participating in a conference session titled “Here, Now: The Challenges of Shifts in Internet Content Types.” Here Mr. Pellet will discuss how new media formats, such as podcasts, can be incorporated into a global content distribution strategy.

In another pre-conference session, Willem Stoeller, Vice President, is leading a workshop on “Managing Distributed Teams in an Outsourced Environment.” Mr. Stoeller will address the challenges posed by distributed teams and present some best-practices on incorporating tools and processes to support such an environment.

René Savelsbergh, Director of Business Development, is moderating two sessions. The first "Real Enterprise Terminology Management” takes an in-depth look at the localization and production process at SAS Institute.  The second, “Beyond the Localization Process," features a senior terminologist at Microsoft and explores key aspects of the product life cycle traditionally outside of the localization process: globalization and localizability.

CEO Smith Yewell is also participating in a point/counterpoint round table titled "Moving Into Higher Gears on the Localization Highway.”  Accompanied by other executives, Mr. Yewell will share his thoughts on competition within the industry and how implementing technology can propel any company to the forefront of the race.
